How Can I Hard Reset a Dish Satellite Receiver?
When you receive signal outages sometimes you have to do a hard reset of the dish satellite receiver. Here the steps:
- Verify the power. You have to make sure that the dish satellite receiver is properly plugged in and that power light is on.
- The television must be on the proper channel (3 or 4 usually).
- Turn your receiver so that you can view it from the rear. Now verify the connections are secured. If they are not, tighten them.
- Now turn off your dish satellite receiver by pressing the power button in the box, not the remote. You must wait at least 30 seconds before turning the receiver on again. If you can see the picture in your TV, then that's it. Otherwise continue to the next step.
- Only proceed to this step if you didn't get a picture in step #4. Turn off the power of the receiver. From the back of your dish satellite receiver, remove the key card from the card slot. Do it slowly. Now wait 30 seconds and insert it again. You can damage the card if you insert it the wrong way, so insert it the same way you took it out and do it slowly. Turn on the power and see if you get a picture. If you have no picture then continue to step #6.
- Only proceed to this step if you didn't get a picture in step #5. Disconnect the dish satellite receiver from the power source. Wait 30 seconds and connect it again. Check if there is a picture on your TV. If there isn't a picture on your TV you will have to contact your service provider. A technician will have to come and verify your dish satellite receiver.

How Can I Connect a Standard TV to a HD Dish Satellite Receiver
You can connect your regular TV to a Dish Satellite Receiver in various ways:
- Connect the RCA jacks (yellow, red, and white) from the inputs of the TV to the outputs of the dish satellite receiver.
- Another option is to plug the coaxial cable output of the satellite receiver (usually a black cable with a single metal wire in the inside) into the 75ohm antenna input on your standard definition TV.
You will be able to see all the programming on your standard TV. But you will see in standard quality, even if you are watching a HD channel. To watch a HD channel in HD quality you'll need a HD TV.
